The Aces bring a four-game winning streak into the meeting with the Fever following a 99-79 road win over the Phoenix Mercury Wednesday afternoon. Jackie Young continued her MVP-caliber play with a game-high tying 23 points on 9 of 12 shooting including a personal-best 5 made three-pointers.

On the year, the fifth-year pro is averaging a career-high 21.0 points per game while shooting an eye-popping 60.4 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from distance, and 81.8 percent from the free throw line. No player in WNBA history has posted a shooting slash line as impressive as that while qualifying for league rankings in each category. In fact, only one player has ever topped 55 / 50 / 80—Young’s current Aces teammate, Alysha Clark, in 2020 (55.8 / 52.2 / 80.0).

A’ja Wilson is also putting up M’VP-like numbers in her bid for a third most valuable player award. The four-time All-Star is averaging 18.6 points and 9.3 rebounds while connecting on 53.5 percent from the field.

The Point Gawd, Chelsea Gray, continues to do her best impression of a Shooting Gawd. Over her last 28 games including the 2022 postseason, she is shooting 57.2 percent from the field, 51.2 percent from three-point range, and 93.6 percent from the free throw line, while averaging 17.1 points and 6.4 assists per game.

Over her last 37 games including the 2022 postseason, Chelsea Gray is shooting 55.3 percent from the field, 49.0 percent from three-point range, and 90.0 percent from the free throw line, while averaging 16.5 points and 6.4 assists per game. The Aces are 30-7 over that span.

Only 4 players in WNBA history have averaged more than 16.0 points and 6.0 assists over a full season. None have come close to shooting as well as Gray has over her last 37 games.

As a team, the Aces are outscoring opponents by a WNBA-record 16.2 points per game, and boast the most efficient offense (112.3) and second most efficient defense (92.2) in the league.

At 5-7, the Indiana Fever have already matched their win total from a season ago. Although they have improved on both sides of the ball, the offensive end is where the team is shining in 2023. They are averaging 103.4 points per 100 possessions, making them the third most efficient offense in the league.

Much of Indiana’s improvement is due to the addition of number one draft pick Aliyah Boston. The South Caroline grad is looking to follow in fellow Gamecock A’ja Wilson’s footsteps by becoming the WNBA Rookie of the Year, and her 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.58 blocks lead all first-year players. She also tops the entire league making 64.3 percent of her field goal attempts.

Sixth-year pro Kelsey Mitchell paces the Fever in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game, while 2022 All-Rookie Team performer NaLyssa Smith is also averaging double figures at 13.9 points per game.

Defense is still Indiana’s Achilles Heal. The Fever are allowing 104.0 points per 100 possessions, which is the second highest figure in the league.

This is the second meeting of the year between the clubs. Las Vegas erased a double-digit fourth quarter road deficit on June 5, upending Indiana 84-80. Wilson’s 27-point, 10-rebound double-double paced the Aces. Boston found herself in foul trouble early, as Las Vegas held her to seven points and four rebounds.
