PHOENIX (Aug.14, 2025) — The Las Vegas Aces (19-14) are looking to extend their 5-game winning streak on a trip to Phoenix for a matchup against the Mercury (19-12) on Friday, Aug. 15, at PHX Arena. The game, which tips at 7 p.m. PT, will air nationally on ION.

MILESTONE WATCH:

  • A’ja Wilson (502) needs 4 more blocks to pass Ruth Riley (505) for No. 9 on the league’s all-time blocks list.

The Aces are currently 5th in the league standings, only one game behind the fourth-seeded Phoenix. The Aces and Mercury are at an even 1-1 heading into their third meeting of the season; Las Vegas took home the most recent victory on June 29, 84-81, at Phoenix and the Merc downed the Aces 76-70 in Las Vegas on June 15.

Las Vegas is currently riding a 5-game winning streak, its longest of the season.

Since the Aces winning streak began on Aug. 3, Wilson has led the WNBA in scoring (23.8 ppg) and rebounds (13.8 rpg) to go with her 3.4 assists and 2 steals per game; and Jackie Young averaged a fourth-best 19.2 ppg on 50.7% from the field to go with a fifth-best 5.4 apg.

Since requesting to come off the bench, Jewell Loyd has scored in double figures in 7 of her last 8 games and is averaging 15.5 points in that span — up from her 10.4 ppg as a starter. Loyd, who has hit 35.1% of her career 3-point attempts, is making a career fourth-best 37.9% beyond the arc and is even more accurate (51.4%) from the left corner 3. Loyd’s accuracy in that area helped the Aces combine for 39.6% from that  corner, which is good for 5th in the league.

After shooting 5 of 24 (.208) over a 4-game span from Aug. 2 to 8, Dana Evans has connected on 63.6% (7-11 FGs) the past 2 games and was inserted into the starting lineup on Aug. 13.

Las Vegas, which has led the league in field goal shooting in the paint the past 2 seasons, is shooting a league-high 44.7% (361-730 FGs) in the paint (non-restricted area) — led by Wilson’s league-best 107 field goals made. The Aces have also been in the top 3 in the mid-range game over the past 4 seasons and are currently 2nd (.410) this season.

The Mercury are 4-5 after the All-Star break, but won 3 out of its last 4 games. Alyssa Thomas, who is averaging 16.1 points, leads the league in assists (9 apg) and is third in the league in rebounds (8.7 rpg).

One addition to the Mercury’s roster is the signing of two-time WNBA Champion DeWanna Bonner on July 8. Bonner, who played 9 games with Indiana, is since averaging 11.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 24.2 minutes. She enters Friday’s contest averaging 19 points on 47.2% shooting and 42.1% from 3-point land over the last 3 games. Phoenix is 6-6 since Bonner joined.

Per Elias, Sami Whitcomb has scored 87 points from 29 3-pointers when assisted by Thomas this season — the most amount of 3’s made by a scorer/assist player combo in 2025. Chelsea Gray and Loyd are 2nd on the list as Loyd has scored 81 points from 3-point off of 27 assists by Gray.

LAST TIME(S) OUT: In the previous two matchups, the Aces averaged 77 points, 37 rebounds and 17 assists. The June 15 game, however, saw a season-high 22 Aces turnovers. Rookie Aaliyah Nye is averaging 9 points on 50% field goal shooting and 62.5% from distance against the Mercury this season. Megan Gustafson (lower left leg) was not on the active roster and NaLyssa Smith was signed a day after the second meeting.

UP NEXT: The Aces return home for another 3-game home stand, starting with the Dallas Wings (9-24) on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The game will tip off at 12:30 p.m. PT and air nationally on ABC. Sunday also marks the “Shooting 4 a Cure” theme game as the Las Vegas Aces are once again teaming up with the Kay Yow Fund for a “Shooting 4 a Cure” campaign.
