LAS VEGAS (June 14, 2025) — The Las Vegas Aces (5-4) will close out a three-game home stand with a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Phoenix Mercury (7-4) at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Sunday marks the annual Aces Kids Day-themed game, and the first 7,500 fans through the door will receive a BUCKET$ ‘squish’ stuffed mascot. The game, which tips at 3 p.m., will air locally on Vegas 34.

Sunday’s contest could be the second in a row without 3x WNBA M’VP A’ja Wilson, who suffered a head injury during the game against Los Angeles on June 11 and went into concussion protocol on Friday at 1 p.m.

Wilson’s presence will again be missed. Not only is the 3-time M’VP the Aces leader in most statistical categories, she is the only player in league history (through June 13) to average 20+ points, 9+ rebounds, 4+ assists, 2+ steals and 2+ blocks per game in a season.

The trio of Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young make up 70% of the team’s scoring in 2025 (54.9 points of 82.0 combined average). They are the only trio in the league averaging 14+ points per game and Las Vegas is only one of two teams that includes a trio where all 3 players are scoring among the top-25 in the league. In Friday’s win, Gray, Young and Jewell Loyd made up 62 out of the Aces 88 points (70.5%).

Las Vegas, which is averaging 82 points, 32.8 rebounds and 16.1 assists, are shooting 39.3% from the field (13th in the league) and 33.3% from beyond the arc (tied for 6th). The team is last in the league in assists, compared to 2024 where it averaged 20.5 assists per game.

Young continues to pace the Aces in accuracy, shooting a team-high 44.4% from the floor, and she recorded a game-high 28 points on 7 of 16 shooting in Friday’s victory over Dallas. She went 11 of 11 from the charity stripe, the most free throws she’s made in her career, as well as the most made without a miss. She previously went 10 for 10 against Seattle in 2021.

Loyd, after shooting a career-low 29.9% from the field in the first 8 games, exploded for a season-high 21 points on 53.8% shooting (7-13 FGs) on Friday night.

In their last time out, Las Vegas struggled to protect the ball on the offensive end, resulting in 18 turnovers, including a quarter-high 10 turnovers for the season in the third. Despite this, the Aces still lead the league in fewest turnovers per game at 12.8.

During the offseason, Phoenix reloaded its roster in hopes of turning around its 19-21 record in 2024. Satou Sabally, who signed with Phoenix after spending 5 seasons with Dallas, leads the Mercury in scoring with 20.5 points per game. Phoenix also signed triple-double machine Alyssa Thomas, who is the second-leading scorer at 14.5 ppg. She also leads the team in assists with 8.3 apg, which is the second-highest in the league.

As a team, the Mercury rank 9th in offensive efficiency at 99.5 points scored per 100 possessions and 4th defensively, allowing 97.5 points. Over their last 4 games, their defense has improved from No. 9 with 104.7 DER to No. 4.

The Aces are 48-54 all-time against the Mercury and won the regular season series in 2024, 3-1. Las Vegas has won 15 out of the last 21 regular season contests between the clubs.

Las Vegas will hit the road on June 17 for its first game against the Minnesota Lynx (9-1) at Target Center in Minneapolis. The game will be broadcast on Vegas 34.
