PHOENIX (September 28, 2021)—Riquna Williams and Kelsey Plum combined to score 51 points Tuesday evening, helping erase a nine-point first-half Phoenix lead en route to a 96-90 victory over the Mercury in game one of their best-three-out-of-five WNBA Semifinals series.
First Quarter (Phoenix 30, Las Vegas 21)
The Mercury scored the first 8 points in the quarter, and never trailed. Riquna Williams led all scorers with 14 points in the period. Phoenix made 11 of 19 shoots from the field including 5 of 12 from three-point range in the quarter.
Second Quarter (Las Vegas 52, Phoenix 49)
It was still a nine-point Mercury lead, 36-27, with 7:41 to go in the half, when the Aces scored 10 straight points to take their first lead of the night. Las Vegas connected on 14 of 21 shots in the quarter, and turned 4 Mercury turnovers into 9 points.
Third Quarter (Las Vegas 76, Phoenix 66)
The Aces scored the final five points and 8 of the last 10 to push their lead to double digits for the first time. Kelsey Plum scored a game-high 12 points in the quarter. The Aces held the Mercury to 29.4 percent shooting from the field.
Fourth Quarter (Las Vegas 96, Phoenix 90)
A 7-0 Mercury run early in the quarter sliced the Las Vegas advantage to three, but that was as close as Phoenix would get. Brittney Griner scored a game-high 10 points in the quarter as Phoenix forced the Aces into 3 turnovers, which they flipped into 7 points.
