Palmetto, FL (August 25, 2020)—The Las Vegas Aces kept pace with the Seattle Storm in the WNBA standings, Tuesday evening, as A’ja Wilson scored a team-high 26 points, and Dearica Hamby added an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double in a 96-92 victory over the Dallas Wings. The Aces improved to 11-3, and remain a half-game behind the Storm (12-3) in the race for first place.
First Quarter (Dallas 24, Las Vegas 23)
Neither team led by more than 5 the entire quarter. Dallas went 5 for 10 from three-point range. They went 4 for 30 for the entire game the last time these two teams met.
Second Quarter (Las Vegas 52, Dallas 43)
Las Vegas scored the first six points of the quarter to go up five, 29-24. It was a two-point Aces’ lead, 38-36, with 3:07 remaining in the half, but Las Vegas scored six straight, and 11 of the next 13 to go up 11, 49-48, with under a minute to go. Kayla Thornton banked in a three with 1.5 seconds to go to slice the Aces’ lead from 12 to nine.
Third Quarter (Las Vegas 76, Dallas 67)
It was a 58-48 Las Vegas lead with 1:36 gone in the third, when the Aces went on an 8-1 run to boost their advantage to a game-high 17, 66-49. The Wings countered by scoring seven straight, and Marina Mabrey hit a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining to slice the Aces lead to nine, 76-67.
Fourth Quarter (Las Vegas 96, Dallas 92)
The Aces still led by nine, 92-83, with 1:46 remaining in the game, but the Wings went on a 9-2 run to close the gap to two, 94-92. Lindsay Allen sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds to go.
