GAME PREVIEW: Las Vegas Puts The Best Defense In The League Up Against The Best Offense As The Aces Host Washington Thursday At 7 pm PT
LAS VEGAS (June 20, 2019)—The Las Vegas Aces have the best defense in the league so far in the 2019 season, leading the W in Defensive Efficiency, Opponent Field Goal Percentage, Adjusted Opponent Field Goal Percentage, and Defensive Rebound Percentage. They will put that D to the test on Thursday evening as the Aces host the top-rated offense in the league in the Washington Mystics. Tip at Mandalay Bay Events Center is at 7 pm PT (View Coach Raimon’s Video Scout).
Las Vegas is over the ,500 mark for the first time since the 2014 campaign, and in fourth place in the WNBA standings, a half-game back of Washington in third place.
The Sin City Splash Sisters (Kayla McBride, and Kelsey Plum) helped move the Aces over the .500 mark recently, as they are each averaging 20.0 points per game in the team’s last two victories, while connecting on a combined 11 of 21 shots from beyond the arc.
Washington ended a two-game losing skid Tuesday in a 29-point road win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Six different members of the Mystics are averaging double figures in scoring led by Elena Delle Donne’s 14.0 points per game. Washington is second in the league in field goal percentage (.440), and is making 84.9 percent of its free throw attempts on the year.
Last season, the Mystics took two of three from the Aces, with one of those games being a forfeit when Las Vegas opted not to play following a 25-hour travel ordeal, as they arrived in the District of Columbia mere hours before tip.
