GAME PREVIEW—Las Vegas Aces Travel to Minneapolis in Search of Season Sweep
The Las Vegas Aces (20-2), on a 4-game winning streak, will look to complete a regular season sweep of the Minnesota Lynx (10-12) on July 22 at Target Center in Minneapolis. Tip is slated for 12 pm PT on ESPN. The Aces, who have swept the Lynx only once before, in 2020 when they played just twice, have won 7 of the past 10 meetings between the clubs.
A’ja Wilson, whose 68 career double-doubles are tied for 15th on the league’s all-time list, has 14 on the season and is averaging team-highs of 19.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. Her 2023 All-Star teammates Jackie Young (19.2) and Kelsey Plum (19.1) are trying to become the WNBA’s first trio of teammates to average more than 18 points a game. Chelsea Gray, also a 2023 All-Star, is dishing out a 6.6 assists a game, while contributing 14.4 points per contest.
The red-hot Aces are leading the league in scoring (93.3), fewest points allowed (77.9), blocks per game (5.4), field goal percentage (.502), points in the paint (40.5), offensive (114.0) and defensive (94.9) efficiency.
The Lynx, who are averaging 79.4 points and 34.3 rebounds a game, halted a 3-game slide after edging Los Angeles 73-70 last night, and are 6-4 over their past 10 games.
Leading the Lynx is 3-time All-Star Napheesa Collier, who averaged 18.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in the 5 games ahead of the midseason break. In her two games since the break, Collier scored a season-high 35 points against Atlanta on July 18 and 22 over Los Angeles on July 20. Overall, she’s the league’s third-leading scorer (21.9) and is adding 7.8 rpg. Diamond Miller (12.1) and Kayla McBride (12.0) are the Lynx’ only other two double-digit scorers.

The Aces are outscoring the Lynx by 25.3 points per game this year, winning 94-73 on May 28, 93-62 on June 18 and 113-89 on July 9. The Aces are making 50.5% of their field goal attempts and 38% from 3-point range against Minnesota, while their defense is holding the Lynx to just 39.9% shooting overall and 32.8% from afar.
In the third game of the series, the Aces shot a blistering 59.7% from the field which is the best field goal percentage in a game the league this season. Plum played an integral part in that game, going off for a franchise-record 40 points on 14 of 18 (.778) shooting from the field and 6 of 9 (.667) from behind the arc.
Plum is averaging 24.0 points and 4.0 assists against the Lynx in 2023. Young is averaging 21.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists; Gray chips in with 16.7 points and 8.3 assists; and Wilson adds 14.7 points and 9.7 boards.
