GAME PREVIEW—Aces Open Home Schedule With 7 pm Tip vs. Seattle On ESPN2
LAS VEGAS (May 7, 2022)—The Las Vegas Aces will look to make it two straight wins to start the Becky Hammon era when they host the Seattle Storm Sunday on ESPN2. Tip is slated for 7 pm PT.
The Aces scored 106 points in an 18-point, season-opening road victory over the Phoenix Mercury, Friday evening. That is the most points a WNBA team has ever scored in the season’s opening game.
Dearica Hamby led three Aces with 20 or more points, pouring in 24 on 11 of 14 shooting from the field. Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum each scored 20, while A’ja Wilson added a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double. Chelsea Gray chipped in with 11 points and five assists, including the 1000th dime of her WNBA career.
As a team, Las Vegas made 58.2 percent of their field goal attempts, and made 11 from distance which ties the team record for made threes since the team moved to the Sports And Entertainment Capital of the World.
The Storm also recorded a double-digit win to open the season, using a 34-14 third quarter en route to a 97-74 victory. No Seattle player logged more than 26 minutes, and five members of the Storm scored in double figures led by Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd’s 17 points apiece. Sue Bird, playing in what may be her final WNBA regular season, just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine assists in just 22 minutes.
Las Vegas took two of three from Seattle last year, but the Storm swept the Aces in the 2020 WNBA Finals the year prior.
