GAME PREVIEW: Aces Tip-off Three-Game Home Stand with Rematch Against Sparks
LAS VEGAS (June 10, 2025)<— The Las Vegas Aces (4-3) are set to host a three-game home stand this week at Michelob ULTRA Arena, starting with their second matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks (3-7) on Wednesday, June 11. The game, which tips at 7 p.m. (all times Pacific), will air on Vegas 34.
The Aces also will take on the Dallas Wings (1-9) on Friday, June 13 (7 p.m. on ION and Vegas 34), and close the weekend with a Sunday afternoon tilt (3 pm on Vegas 34) against the Phoenix Mercury (6-4), in their annual kids-themed game. June 15 also marks the second giveaway of the year and the first 7,500 fans through the doors will receive a free BUCKET$ squish.
The Aces have won two out of their last three contests, dropping their most recent game to Golden State, 95-68, in the Bay Area.
The Aces, who are averaging 80.1 points, 33.0 rebounds and 16.9 assists a game, while shooting a chilly 39.2% from the field and 34.6% from 3-point. However, behind a career-best 91.7% free throw shooting from A’ja Wilson, the Aces are leading the league in free throw accuracy, netting 82.1% of their attempts from the stripe.
On the flip side, the Sparks are putting up 82.6 ppg, 32.4 rpg and 19.9 apg, while hitting on 43.5% of their field goal attempts overall, including 33.9% from afar, and are only making 76% from the line.
Wilson is pacing the Aces with averages of 22 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game. Also scoring in double figures are Jackie Young with 16.1 ppg and Chelsea Gray at 12.9 ppg.
With a 16-point outing against the Valkyries, Gray surpassed the 4,000-point mark and in doing so, became the 8th player in WNBA history to tally at least 4,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,500 assists. She is the second-fastest (332 games) and second-youngest (32 years, 242 days) to ever reach the milestone. Lindsay Whalen holds both No. 1 slots after achieving the mark in her 326th game at 31 years and 114 days.
Las Vegas is struggling to maintain efficiency on both sides of the ball, currently in the 8th spot in both offensive (99.6 OER) and defensive efficiency (101.6 DER), compared to 2024 where it finished 2nd in offensive rating (106.8 OER) and 5th in defensive efficiency at 99.6.
On the offensive end, the Aces, who led the league in scoring in each of the past five seasons, are currently ranked No. 8 in the league. Their pace also is slower than in recent history. After finishing no lower than 1st or 2nd from 2018-2023, and ranking 4th in 2024, the Aces have slowed their pace to 80.6, good for No. 6 on the league’s charts this year, but still ahead of No. 9 Los Angeles (79.8).
The Sparks have dropped four of their past five games, including an 89-81 overtime loss Monday night against Golden State, and have gone 1-2 since their last meeting against the Aces. They are led by Kelsey Plum, who is averaging 21.8 ppg, the 3rd highest average in the league behind Wilson (22.0 ppg). Plum leads her team in points, 3-point percentage (37.8%) and assists (5.4 apg). Dearica Hamby follows closely behind Plum, averaging 18.1 ppg.
Last time out against the Sparks, Las Vegas held them to only 7 fast break points, their 2nd lowest tally of 2025. The Aces also recorded their highest 3-point field goal percentage of 2025 (48% 3pt FGs) and highest overall field goal percentage (45.7% FGs). Wilson posted a season-high 35 points in addition to 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks to go with just 1 turnover.
The Aces are currently last in the league in points in the paint with 28.9 points per game, while the Sparks sit at No. 4 with 37.2 points in the paint per game.
The two teams will square off twice more, both in Los Angeles, on July 29 and in the regular season finale on September 11.
