LAS VEGAS, NV (July 29, 2019)—With AT&T WNBA All-Star 2019 in the rear view, it is time for the Aces to dive into the second half of the regular season. They put their 13-6 record, which is tops in the league, on the line Tuesday, July 30 against the Dallas Wings (5-14). Tip is slated for 7 pm PT at Mandalay Bay Events Center (watch Coach Johnson’s video scout).

Las Vegas has won two straight games, and seven of its last eight heading into Tuesday’s game. The last two of those victories came without A’ja Wilson in the lineup as she injured her ankle in the Aces’ July 19 game at Seattle.

Over the last eight games, Las Vegas is outscoring its opponents by an average of 8.8 points per game. Liz Cambage is averaging 17.3 points per game, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, while blocking 1.75 shots per contest. Kayla McBride is averaging 15.8 points per game, while connecting on 50.0 percent of her field goal attempts, and 52.6 percent from long distance.

Las Vegas has been even more dominant over its last two games, winning by an average of 11.0 points. Since Wilson’s injury, Dearica Hamby is averaging 19.0 points per game while making 62.5 percent of her shots from the field, and grabbing 8.0 boards per outing. Cambage is averaging an 18.5-points, 12.5-rebound double-double during that time, and handing out an average of 4.0 assists. McBride is chipping in 15.5 points per game over the last two games, and Kelsey Plum is averaging 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists.

The team’s defense continues to be the best in the league, allowing a WNBA-low 91.9 points per 100 possessions, grabbing a league-high 78.3 percent of defensive rebounds, and holding opponents to a W-low 38.1 percent shooting from the field. Should the Aces maintain that defensive field goal percentage throughout the year, it would be tied for the second lowest in WNBA history.

Dallas has lost five straight games, and seven of its last nine. Offensively, they rank second to last in the league in offensive efficiency, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage. The Wings do, however, boast the best offensive rebound percentage in the W.

Rookie guard Arike Ogunbowale leads the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game, but she is making just 33.6 percent of her shots from the field, and 28.3 percent from long range. Forward Kayla Thornton is also averaging double figures for the Wings, at 11.2 points per game.

Las Vegas won the initial meeting between the teams this season, 86-68, back on June 22.
