A’ja Wilson Earns 12th Career WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week Honor

LAS VEGAS (July 25, 2023)—The WNBA announced today that Las Vegas Aces forward/center A’ja Wilson earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors for helping power the Aces to a 2-0 slate for the week ending July 23. It is Wilson’s second player of the week honor of the season and 12th career honor after earning it 5 times in 2022, twice in 2019 and once each in 2021, 2020 and 2018.

Wilson posted a pair of double-doubles on the week—23 points and a season-high tying 15 rebounds in the Aces 79-63 win at Seattle on July 20, and a season-high 35 points and 14 rebounds in a 98-81 victory at Minnesota on July 22. The victory over the Lynx marked the 5th-straight win for the team by 15 or more points.

Wilson shot 14 of 17 (.824) from the field against the Lynx, which tied the league record for highest single-game field goal percentage by a player attempting at least 17 shots (Lisa Leslie, Aug. 1, 2002, 14-17 FGs). The 35 points marked her 9th career game with 30+ points and her first in 2023 (career high is 39).

Additionally, Wilson led the WNBA in scoring (29.0 points) and rebounding (14.5 boards) on the week while finishing 2nd in steals (3.0), and 7th in blocked shots (1.5), while shooting 71.9% from the field.

Wilson has led the Aces to a 21-2 (.935) record to start to the season, and Las Vegas is leading the league in scoring (93.5), blocked shots (5.2), field goal percentage (.503), offensive (114.1) and defensive (94.9) efficiency rating, net rating (19.2), assist to turnover ratio (1.78), true shooting percentage (.610) and points in the paint (40.7).
