LAS VEGAS, NV (September 10, 2021) – The Las Vegas Aces are honoring the career of WNBA legend Becky Hammon by raising her No. 25 jersey to the rafters at Michelob ULTRA Arena at halftime of the team’s Monday, September 13 game against the Dallas Wings. Tip is slated for 12 pm PT.
Hammon played 16 seasons in the WNBA, including her final eight with San Antonio. The Stars retired her No. 25 on June 25, 2016, and that number remained retired when the team moved to Las Vegas.
“Becky Hammon played a huge part in the history of our franchise before it moved to Las Vegas,” said Aces President Nikki Fargas, “and as we’ve continued to celebrate the 25th season of the WNBA, we wanted to officially recognize her retired jersey here at Mandalay Bay. Every one of the players who suited up for this team, in Las Vegas, San Antonio, or Utah, is always going to be a part of our Aces family, and we are looking forward to celebrating her tremendous career in front of our fans next Monday.”
As part of the Aces alumni celebration that day, the team will hold a pregame autograph session from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. Hammon is being joined at the session by Aces’ alumni Chantelle Anderson, Sydney Colson, Sandora Irvin, and Toccara Williams, along with Las Vegas Raiders alumni Stuart Schweigert, Jay Schroeder, Reggie Kinlaw, and Anttaj Hawthorne.
Hammon remains the franchise career leader in assists (1,333), made three-pointers (498), and free throw percentage (92.1%). She ranks second in points (3,474) and scoring average (15.6) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (38.8%).
The 5-6 guard was recently named to The W25 honoring the 25 greatest and most influential players in league history. A six-time WNBA All-Star, and four-time All-WNBA performer, Hammon led the Stars to the franchise’s first appearance in the WNBA Finals in 2008.
The Colorado State graduate joined the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach in 2014, becoming the first full-time female assistant coach in league history, as well as the first full-time assistant coach in any of the four major North American professional sports.
