Aces Sign Four-Time WNBL Champion Cayla George

Las Vegas, NV (February 1, 2023)—Las Vegas Aces General Manager Natalie Williams announced today that the team has signed four-time WNBL Champion and three-year WNBA veteran center Cayla George to a free agent contract.

“Cayla George is one of the best centers in the world,” said Williams. “Her three-point shooting, high-IQ passing and rebounding skills are elite. We’re so excited to add her to our talented front court, and watch her stretch the floor on offense and battle the other great centers in the league on defense. Cayla is an amazing woman, whom I think the city of Las Vegas is going to love.”

“I am really excited to join the Aces organization, and to be back playing in the WNBA,” said George. “To be able to play alongside some of the best players in the world, and to be coached by Becky is something I am really looking forward to.”

George (33) is a native of Mount Barker, Australia, and is currently playing in her 15th season in the WNBL, the last five of which have been for Melbourne. She is putting up career-high numbers for the Boomers this year, ranking third in the league in scoring (18.6 ppg), second in rebounding (11.9 rpg), 10th in assists (4.7 apg), 7th in steals (1.8 spg), and 7th in blocked shots (0.8 bpg).

She has won four WNBL Championships in her career—three with the Townsville Fire (2015, 2016, 2018), and one with Melbourne (2022).

On the international stage, George has won three medals with the Opals in the FIBA World Cup, earning silver in 2018 in Spain and bronze in 2014 in Turkey, and 2022 in Australia. She also played in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games.

George’s WNBA career began in 2015 when she signed with the Phoenix Mercury as a free agent. She averaged 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds as a rookie helping the Mercury to the Western Conference Finals. George most recently suited up in the W for the Dallas Wings in 2018 where she averaged 3.6 points and 2.8 rebounds.
