Las Vegas, NV (February 15, 2022)—Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon announced today that the team has signed 6-7 center and three-year WNBA veteran Kalani Brown (kuh-LAH-nee).
“Kalani has been a big presence on the floor during the Athlete’s Unlimited season and overseas in Turkey this year, and I’m anxious to see how she performs in training camp,” said Hammon. “At 6-7, she obviously commands a lot of attention in the post, and at just 24-years-old, she still has room to grow her game.”
“I’m so excited to join the Aces, and to be around so many great vets whom I can learn from, and being coached by one of the greatest to play this game is an added bonus,” said Brown. “I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Brown was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in the first round (No. 7 overall) of the 2019 WNBA Draft. As a rookie, she played in 28 of 34 games, averaging 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 47.8 percent of her shots from the field
In February of 2020, the Sparks traded Brown to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for Brittney Sykes and Marie Gulich. A knee injury limited her to just 10 games during the 2020 wubble season, and the Dream waived Brown early in the 2021 WNBA Season.
The Baylor alum played overseas for Hatay in Turkey this offseason, averaging 20.6 points and 6.0 rebounds during EuroCup play, and 20.9 points and 8.1 rebounds in Turkish League competition.
More recently, Brown suited up for Athletes Unlimited in Las Vegas, where she ranks 10th in the league in AU’s unique scoring system, averaging 14.4 points and 6.0 rebounds. She leads the league in field goal percentage (.688), and is knocking down 80.0 percent of her free throw attempts.
