Las Vegas Signs Five-Year Veteran Carolyn Swords

Las Vegas (February 1, 2018)—Las Vegas Aces President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Bill Laimbeer announced today the signing of free agent center Carolyn Swords.

“I coached Carolyn in New York, and she is a quality person and a great teammate,” said Laimbeer. “She does whatever is asked of her. The league gets bigger every year, and Carolyn gives us the size to match up against the Griners and Fowles in the league.”

A five-year veteran of the WNBA, Sword was selected in the second round (no. 15 overall) of the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. She played three years with the Sky before signing with the New York Liberty as a free agent prior to the 2015 campaign.

Swords enjoyed the best years of her career with the Liberty. In 2015, she averaged 5.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game, ranking 29th in the WNBA in rebounding and 25th in blocked shots. The following season, she started all 34 games averaging career-highs of 5.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.6 blocked shots, ranking 26th in the league in blocked shots and 28th in rebounding. She also shot 57.1 percent from the field that season.
