GAME PREVIEW: Aces Return Home To Take On Phoenix Sunday At 5 pm PT

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 17, 2018)—The Las Vegas Aces return home to the Mandalay Bay Events Center today, following a four-game road trip, to take on the Phoenix Mercury beginning at 5 pm PT.

The Aces went 2-2 on their road swing, toppling New York and Indiana, but falling at Phoenix and Dallas. A’ja Wilson posted one of the greatest performances by a rookie in WNBA history, scoring 35 points on 16 of 24 shooting against the Fever, while grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. She continues to lead all rookies in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and minutes played, and is beginning to make waves in league MVP discussions.

Today’s game is the sixth in a seven-game, 12-day stretch for Las Vegas, and just the team’s fourth home game of the season. After Tuesday’s road game at Seattle, the Aces will be more than half way through their road schedule for 2018. Las Vegas begins a four-game home stand on Friday, June 22, as the Aces take on New York in a nationally televised game on ESPN2.

Las Vegas is 3-4 over its last seven games, thanks primarily to an improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Over the first four games of the season, the Aces gave up an average of 95.5 points per game. Since then, they are allowing 79.9 points per game. Las Vegas allowed the opposition to connect on 46.2 percent of its three-pointers through the first four games of the season, Since then, Aces’ opponents are making just 23.6 percent of their three pointers.

Las Vegas also has taken better care of the basketball of late. The Aces averaged 18.3 per game over the team’s first three games, but since then are averaging just 12.8 turnovers per game.

Phoenix is riding a seven-game winning streak following their 17-point, Saturday night victory over the Connecticut Sun. The Mercury boast the highest scoring duo and trio in the league in Brittney Griner (20.1 png), Diana Taurasi (19.5) an DeWanna Bonner (15.8).

Phoenix is making a league-high 87.3 percent of its shots from the free throw line, and blocks a league-high 5.9 shots per game.
