Bench Gives Aces Lift In 78-63 Road Win Over New York

WESTCHESTER, NY (June 13, 2018)—Las Vegas got a big boost from its bench Wednesday evening, particularly from guard-forward Dearica Hamby who scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Aces to a 78-63 victory over the New York Liberty. It was the team’s second straight win, and second straight victory on the road.

Las Vegas led by four at the half, 37-33, but scored nine of the first 11 points coming out of the break to secure its first double-digit lead of the night.

The Aces opened the fourth quarter on a 22-7 run to take control of the game.

Las Vegas’ bench outscored the Liberty’s 30 to 16.

Las Vegas was playing the back end of a road-road, back-to-back, and took a bus to the airport in Indiana at 4:30 Wednesday morning. The Aces arrived at the hotel in Westchester County New York late morning, but their rooms weren’t ready for another hour.

The Aces held Tina Charles, who scored 17 points in the first half, to two points after the intermission.

Las Vegas went 15 for 20 from the free throw line, while the Liberty went 3 for 6.

Both teams committed 14 turnovers on the night, but the Aces turned New York’s into 22 points, while the Liberty turned Las Vegas’ into just 12.

GAME NOTES

JiSu Park tied her career scoring high with six points, all of which were scored in the first six minutes of the game.

A’ja Wilson (13 points) reached double figures in scoring for the 10th straight time to start her career.

Both Las Vegas (55.0%) and New York (52.6%) shot better than 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter. In the second, both teams shot lower than 40 percent—Las Vegas at 31.2% and New York at 35.7%

Tamera Young (10 points) reached double figures in scoring for the seventh time in 10 games this season.

Dearica Hamby (17 points) reached double figures in scoring for the fifth time in six games.
