Aces History: Feeling A Draft (2012)

Following an 18-16 season in 2011, and a fifth consecutive trip to the playoffs, San Antonio had just one pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft having traded away its second and third round picks to Tulsa the year prior for Scholanda Dorrell (neé Robinson). She averaged 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in her lone year with the Silver Stars, and played her final season in Tulsa in 2012.

With the sixth overall selection in the 2012 Draft, San Antonio took Miami guard Shenise Johnson. Johnson played in a reserve roll as a rookie, averaging 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds, but moved into the starting rotation in 2013. She rewarded San Antonio by averaging 11.0 points per game during her sophomore campaign.

In 2014, Johnson returned to her reserve roll, and averaged 6.0 points per game. The Silver Stars traded her prior to the start of the 2015 season, along with their second round pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft, to Indiana in exchange for the Fever’s first and third round picks in the 2015 Draft. Johnson went on to play four seasons in Indiana (2015-17, 2019), and averaged 9.5 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Fever in 91 games.

An offseason trade sent Johnson to Minnesota, and she played her final WNBA season with the Lynx in 2020.
